Our Future, Together: Highlights from the Campus Plan Update

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Our Future: Campus Plan Update on Monday evening. Here’s a recap of the momentum, planning, and community-centered vision shaping ��ԭ��’s next chapter.

Leading From Where We Are

Head of School Kristy Lundstrom opened the evening by naming a word that defines this moment at ��ԭ��: momentum. While progress is visible across campus, much of the most exciting work is happening through intentional planning and long-term design. This year’s themes, Lead From Where You Are and , framed the conversation and set the tone for the updates that followed.

In true ��ԭ�� fashion, the evening began with Kids Going First. Students Arthur D. (Grade 4), and later Tej G. and George H. (Grade 3) shared what excites them most about their futures at ��ԭ��—from MIT-inspired learning experiences to expanded creative play on the Frontier. Their voices served as a powerful reminder that our campus planning always begins with learners.

We also premiered a new ��ԭ�� video, first shown at . Narrated by senior, Haris Flynn, it captures the authentic, unscripted story of the student experience. Every scene was completely unstaged, offering a genuine glimpse of life at ��ԭ�� on any given day. On screen, students are seen exploring ideas in classrooms, collaborating in the Makerspace, moving across campus, and forming meaningful connections. These everyday moments are the heartbeat of our community—a living reflection of how ��ԭ�� empowers learners to explore, create, and make an impact.

A Strong Foundation: Enrollment and Outcomes

��ԭ�� remains grounded in the strength of its current community. As of February 9, 2026, the school is seeing 96% enrollment renewal across all divisions, reflecting strong family confidence and retention.

Student outcomes continue to affirm the mission of preparing learners to be college-ready, globally competitive, and engaged citizen leaders. The Class of 2026 has already earned a 98% college acceptance rate, with acceptances across 35 states and Canada, more than $4.2 million in scholarships, and recognition from highly competitive national programs. These outcomes underscore that investments in campus and programs are directly tied to student success.

Reimagining the Frontier on the Lower Campus

One of the evening’s highlights was unveiling plans for an all-new Frontier on the Lower Campus. Opening Fall 2026, the expanded Frontier will add more than 11,000 square feet of creative, outdoor play and learning space for Preschool through Grade 5.

Designed through a collaborative process that included Innovation Diploma students, alumni, architects, teachers, and administrators, the reimagined Frontier will feature elements such as willow huts, a mud kitchen, climbing structures, a tree house, grass moguls, and spaces for imaginative play. Safety, supervision, and long-term Lower Campus facility planning were central considerations throughout the design process.

Maximizing and Enhancing Our Spaces

Kristy also shared several updates focused on maximizing existing campus spaces:

Solar panels will be installed this summer to help offset energy costs—an initiative inspired by a Grade 5 Impact Summit project.
Lighting for Ron Hill Field remains a priority to increase practice space and flexibility, while also addressing safety and security.
AV and production upgrades have been added to enhance student performances and experiences.

The Future of Athletics and Community Events

The most visible transformation currently underway is the construction behind the MAC on the Upper Campus. Preparatory work is complete, positioning the school for the installation of a regulation turf field, six-lane track, expanded cross-country trails, and new amenities buildings as funding and approvals allow.

These additions will expand programming opportunities—including the potential launch of a girls’ lacrosse program—and allow ��ԭ�� to host events such as meets, games, and a future 5K. Questions about seating, shade, and spectator experience are part of ongoing planning conversations as designs continue to evolve.

Finishing Strong: The Capital Campaign

A second video shared a progress update on the —how far the community has come and what still remains. With a clear and powerful call to action, the video reminded us that our students’ future can’t wait. With just $1.1 million remaining, the message was both urgent and hopeful: together, we are close to finishing strong.

While significant progress has been made—with more than $7.1 million raised and over $1 million in gifts-in-kind and reduced fees—approximately remains to fully fund the field and auxiliary buildings and complete the campaign.

The Our Future: Campus Plan Update reaffirmed what makes ��ԭ�� distinct: a community that plans boldly, listens deeply, and centers every decision on students. As momentum continues to build, we are grateful for the partnership, questions, and engagement of our families.

Hidden Potential, Real Impact: Molly Hudson Joins Oprah and Adam Grant in a Global Conversation

When a producer from Harpo Productions called Molly Hudson, Head of Lower School, to ask if she’d like to be a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s new podcast with Adam Grant, she didn’t believe it was real.

It was.

The , which was just released this morning goes in depth behind Grant’s book Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater Things. The episode is a discussion between Oprah and Grant and features three guests, and our very own Molly Hudson is one of them! Grant’s book is a mirror of ��ԭ��’s approach to teaching and learning and so much of what we do at ��ԭ�� reflects the very research Grant explores.

A Schoolwide Read, A Shared Mindset

Long before producers called Molly, Kristy Lundstrom, Head of School, led the entire ��ԭ�� faculty and staff in an all-school read of Hidden Potential over the summer. Preparing for the 2025-26 school year, teachers reflected on what it means to unlock potential in their students and in themselves.

Faculty and staff immediately connected Grant’s findings to ��ԭ��’s mission as a school of inquiry, innovation, and impact:

Developing prosocial behaviors by starting with questions, beginning in preschool.
Creating a culture of innovation through feedback, where teachers, families, and students actively shape one another’s growth.
Fostering joy and fun as an essential element to cultivating a lifelong love of learning.

“At ��ԭ��, we don’t just read Hidden Potential, we live it,” says Hudson. “Every day, we see students learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and discovering what they’re capable of.”

Learning in Action

Across the Lower School, teachers designed experiences that help children practice perseverance, curiosity, and courage.

Earlier this year, in Grade 1, students studying the Human Body interviewed professionals including dentists, orthopedic surgeons, and even the Head Varsity Football Coach, armed with sticky notes full of their own questions.

In Preschool Tinker Time, students start their mornings building, creating, and redesigning with loose parts. Towers fall, ideas flop, and collaboration flourishes.

“We design opportunities for kids to try and try again,” says Hudson. “Mistakes fuel learning. Feedback fuels next steps.”

These early experiences mirror what happens later in ��ԭ��’s Innovation Diploma program, where Upper School students partner with major corporations to solve real-world challenges.

Extending It to Families

The Hidden Potential conversation didn’t stop with faculty. Over the summer, a ��ԭ�� parent, unaware it was the school’s all-faculty read, emailed Molly to share how meaningful the book had been for their family.

That moment sparked the Lower School Parent Book Club, bringing together 25 parents this fall to explore ideas like:

Progress is not linear—it loops.
Growth comes from discomfort.
Character is how you show up on a hard day.

“As parents and educators, we know hard days will happen,” says Hudson. “Our role isn’t to clear the hard—it’s to give kids the tools to handle it.”

Unlocking Potential, Together

From faculty reflections to family conversations, Hidden Potential has become a shared language at ��ԭ��—one rooted in curiosity, feedback, and growth.

“I love that our educators and parents are aligned around a common goal,” Hudson reflects. “To see and unlock the hidden potential in ourselves, in one another, and especially in the children in our care.”

Impact Summits: Three Intentional Moments Along A Learner’s Journey of Purpose

At ��ԭ��, the learning journey is defined by impactful experiences that shape not only a learner’s academic life but also their identity and sense of purpose. The Grade 5, Grade 8, and Grade 11 Impact Summits are three moments within this journey, offering learners the opportunity to explore, reflect, and present their work in a meaningful way. Innovating on the idea of a “Capstone” project, Impact Summits are a multifaceted body of work that serves as a culminating academic and intellectual experience, uniquely grounded in self-leadership, agency, and social capital. The pillars of self-leadership, agency, and social capital guide the Summits and ensure that students’ work is meaningful to self and consequential to others, fostering a deep sense of community and leadership.

Grade Level Progression

The Impact Summits are structured to reflect the developmental stages of the learners, with each grade’s experience designed to prepare students for the next academic and life phase.

Grade 5 Summit: A Foundation of Leadership

The Grade 5 Impact Summit introduces younger learners to the concept of leadership and purpose-driven learning. Building on the foundational work from earlier grades, Grade 5 begins by engaging in community walks and empathy interviews to explore how they can contribute to the world around them. Throughout the year, they develop a Purpose Statement that becomes their North Star as they move through the Lower School. By the end of the year, students reflect on their learning, write about their journey, and celebrate their growth through a celebration of learning event tied to their Bridging Ceremony, marking their readiness for Middle School.

This purpose statement follows a structured format, allowing students to articulate their impact: “Blank matters to me and is consequential to others because blank. I make an impact by being a blank (skill) while demonstrating blank (attribute).”

For instance, a Grade 5 student might choose a self-selected project as simple as improving their baseball swing or as meaningful as working on environmental conservation, like saving sea turtles. Regardless of the topic, the student’s Purpose Statement aligns their passions with real-world consequences, allowing them to see the broader impact of their work.

Grade 8 Summit: Refining Purpose and Research

In Middle School, students continue developing their portfolios and refining their Purpose Statements, which will guide their Grade 8 Summit. Throughout the year, students build on identity work done in and engage in preliminary research based on their interests. By Mod 3, they begin crafting a project that demonstrates their learning and purpose. Unlike large-scale presentations, the Grade 8 Summit offers an intimate setting where students present their work to small groups of mentors and peers, fostering deeper connections and reflective discussions.

For example, a Grade 8 student might express, “Nutrition matters to me because I want to make healthy choices for my family, and I can impact others by being a responsible decision-maker.”

Grade 11 Summit: A Demonstration of Impact

In Upper School, the Summit becomes a more formalized “defense” of the student’s work. Grade 11 students participate in a Capstone course that prepares them to showcase their self-leadership, agency, and social capital after an intentional journey of reflection and exploration. This moment is designed to mirror real-world professional experiences as students present to a panel of peers, teachers, parents, and community members. The process culminates at the end of Mod Impact Summits where students showcase their work, allowing them to reflect on their journey and prepare for life after ��ԭ��.

In addition to the presentations, ��ԭ�� incorporates into the final product, ensuring that students produce both oral and written reflections of their learning. Lower School students write several-paragraph essays while Middle School writes a 3-4 page research paper and Upper School students craft a resume and personal narrative, further developing their communication and critical thinking skills.

Impact Ready Outcomes and ��ԭ��’s Strategic Plan

Grade-level Impact Summits follow the intentional instructional design outlined by ��ԭ��’s strategic plan, The , to prepare students for the complexities of life beyond school.

As detailed in Target 1 and the supporting strategic objectives, Impact Summits focus on ensuring learners are prepared to lead and contribute meaningfully to society. The Summits represent the culmination of this work- leveraging students’ attitudes, beliefs, and the networks they’ve built along the way.

Each Summit reflects ��ԭ��’s intentional design, where the ultimate goal is not just academic achievement but developing leaders ready to make a difference—both within their own lives and in the wider world.

From developing leadership skills in Grade 5 to refining research and purpose in Grade 8, and defending real-world impact in Grade 11, ��ԭ��’s Impact Summits serve as powerful milestones that prepare students to lead with purpose and contribute to a greater societal good. The intentional design of these experiences ensures that students not only excel academically but also emerge as impactful, self-led learners poised to navigate the challenges of the world.

Redesigning the Iconic Alpha/Omega ��ԭ�� Experience

We believe in the power of connection—intentionally linking the journeys of our youngest and oldest students through a ��ԭ�� tradition we call Alpha & Omega. Most people recognize the iconic Alpha/Omega moment at , our annual, all-school spring event when seniors walk hand in hand with (or carry) Preschoolers through the parade of classes and participate in the always-anticipated piggyback race during the field games. These events are highlights, but the Alpha/Omega program is much more than these celebrated annual moments. This innovative partnership between the Preschool and Upper School creates a dynamic opportunity where mentorship and learning thrive.

Recognizing the potential for greater impact, Kate Canady, Head of Preschool, and Erin McCubbin, Executive Director of Student and Graduate Success, have redesigned the Alpha/ Omega experience this year to create more frequent and intentional opportunities for seniors and preschoolers to have consistent and meaningful connection moments. This year, senior advisories will be paired with Preschool classrooms and will visit the Lower Campus monthly as part of their advisory.

Throughout the year, Upper School students, known as the “Bigs,” will take on roles that extend beyond the events of Mustang Rally. From guiding preschoolers across campus to assisting with carpool and participating in special events, these interactions build lasting bonds. The program culminates in signature moments of Mustang Rally and the Senior Salute, where seniors make a symbolic final walk through the Lower Campus, celebrating the relationships they’ve nurtured.

Since the beginning of this year, three successful volunteer opportunities have already been completed—and many more to come. Two standout seniors, Kennedy Reynolds, and Amelia Bruening, have been at the forefront of this initiative and are a consistent presence at the Preschool. Their commitment, along with that of the entire Class of 2025, exemplifies the leadership, empathy, and community spirit that Alpha/Omega is all about.

The Alpha/Omega program is also a key example of ��ԭ��’s strategic plan, . Target 2 of the plan focuses on relationships and networks, encouraging learners to traverse all dimensions of the community and fostering deep connections within the school. By prioritizing intentional interactions and cultivating a culture of mentorship, ��ԭ�� is setting a new standard for how schools can innovate and inspire across generations.

Year of Impact – May Update

As we approach the final weeks of the School’s 50th year, we are reflecting on the impact we have made together as a community. Whether integrated into grade-level learning or independent service at local non-profit organizations, our MV community has pledged to log 50,000 hours of selfless service through the end of this academic year.��

As a school grounded in Christian values, ��ԭ�� is committed to service learning. Extending its reach throughout Atlanta, the School has partnered with a variety of not-for-profit organizations to provide hands and hearts for good.��

Since launching on September 11, 2021, MV students, parents, faculty/staff, grandparents, and alumni have collectively logged 49,382.25 hours of impactful service. This leaves just 671.75 hours of service to reach our ambitious goal.��

Families, groups, teams, and individuals have continued to give back to others in the past seven months, through packing and delivering meals, coaching teams, hosting meetings, donating toys/clothes/household items, participating in fundraising walks/runs, gardening, serving on an MVPN committee, coordinating collection drives and much more.��

When asked what service does for his soul, Grade 9 student Jack Schimelman (who also logged the most entries as a student) responded,��“��I felt great after serving. Giving back to the people in need really makes me happy and it’s a thing I enjoy doing. It’s important because we are all so lucky to live the lives we live, we have a lot. Taking time out of your day to help those who could use the help will bring you farther in life. If you are thinking about service hours but aren’t so sure, give it a shot, try doing it with friends first, and see how it goes. Find somewhere local to sign up for service and try it out.”

Rally 2022 Recap

After a two year pause, Mustang Rally returned in a big way last Friday, April 29. ��ԭ��’s all-day, all-fun, all-school celebration of spirit and community was another major highlight in MV’s 50th year! It was a celebration full of old and new traditions.��

The day began with the student parade led by Renegade and his Royal Court voted on by students and families. The members of the 2022 Royal Court were: Middle School’s Max Hanson and Deairra Hobson, Lower School’s David Ayers, Upper School’s Sharveace Cameron and Preschool’s Ashley Tabor.

As each grade passed under the balloon arch they were announced by Clark Taylor as they headed to the turf field on the upper campus. Confetti flew, music played and the community cheered.

Students assembled on the field, as Dr. Jacobsen officially welcomed the community with opening remarks. “On April 17, 2011 we held our very first Mustang Rally on this very field, because of the last two years and the interruption this actually makes this Mustang Rally our 10th moment together. A lot has changed since then. In 2011 we had 739 students on this field and 52 seniors (the largest senior class the school had ever experienced). In 2022 we have over 1200 students at ��ԭ�� and 116 seniors representing the class of 22 which we are proud of today.”

Hunter Reese Giardino (Grade 8) and Hadley Ryan Giardino (Grade 3) led the Opening Prayer, Gunnar Ehrlich (Grade 5), Isla Ehrlich (Grade 3) and Piper Ehrlich (Kindergarten) led the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem was sung by Alice Parker (Grade 7) to get the Rally officially underway

A highlight of the field games was the Alpha/Omega Piggy-Back Race. The Yellow team (made up of the Freshmen, Grade 7, Grade 4 and PK3) won the color war. The Tug of war this year was fierce with the sophomores upsetting the seniors, then the juniors and going on to beat the Faculty/staff.

A family picnic and an over-the-top carnival that included rides, slides, games, face painting, bull riding and a petting zoo, and so much more – not to mention a silent auction which raised over $38,000 with a variety of school related opportunities and experiences rounded out the day.

Funds raised at the Rally specifically benefit student programming, making an impact on every Mustang’s experience.

By all accounts this year’s Mustang Rally was one of the best ever. Rally Chairs Marci Ehrlich and Ashley Giardino, along with their team of 100+ volunteers, planned and executed the entire event. A big thank you goes out to the 188 corporate and family sponsors and the entire community for supporting ��ԭ��’s most fun fundraising event of the year!

, a professional photographer with two daughters at MV, was fed up with the media’s prevailing imagery of girls as demure and overly feminine. “I wanted to show my girls that beauty isn’t about being a certain size or having your hair done (or even brushed, in their cases), or wearing a fancy outfit. I wanted to combat the messages the media sends to women every day. I wanted my girls to know that being themselves is beautiful and that being beautiful is about being strong.”

But what about boys? Kate soon realized that their voices needed to be heard as well – not just fearless and confident and wild but also curious and kind and vulnerable. THE HEART OF A BOY, published in 2019, was a New York Times bestseller and shows the richness and diversity of boyhood from all across the country. “It’s time to discuss how to raise our sons to become good people and to talk about defining masculinity in a way that is less narrow and limiting.”��

Year of Impact

To date, the School’s Year of Impact total is��43,590. We have until the end of May to reach our goal of 50,000 impact hours, so we still need everyone’s help!��. Together, we give back. Last month’s school-wide collection drive was a huge success! The MV Serves committee delivered almost 2,500 food items and approximately 9,000 personal items to Solidarity Pantry at Sandy Springs.

The School is grateful to the entire MV community for going above and beyond to elevate the ��ԭ�� experience through the��,��, and��. With continued benefits through��, , and��, support for the Ron Hill Field, Upper and Lower Campus mainstage technology upgrades, Lower Campus gym updates, Faculty/Staff professional learning and development, a new fleet of buses, and additional resources that are essential to every student’s experience are nearing full funding. However, there is still more work to be done to close the gap for the year and we need our entire community’s assistance. Please consider reinvesting in the School by placing your initial��or by increasing your contribution.

Additionally, GOAL is currently accepting tax credit applications for the 2022 tax year;��to apply.

Community Recap:

Lower Campus students celebrated the last two Fridays by bringing a special guest to their respective events. Thank you to Jacki Fink, Sarah Linden, Ashly Cox, Cissy Zelickson, Anna Copeland, and Stephanie Brady for designing, planning, and executing two successful events measured by the smiles.
